Well done to all Rathfarnham WSAF AC juveniles athletes who competed over 5 days of the Dublin indoor athletics championships. Rathfarnham was very well represented by a record 77 athletes across over 200 individual events and split almost evenly between boys and girls aged from 8 to 18. Athletes competed in a range of competitions from hurdles, sprints, walks, jumps and field events. We were also represented by almost 20 relay teams of 4. All our teams ran very well with some of our younger athletes competing in relays for the first time. Most of the teams qualified out of the heats for the finals where our U/15 boys team won the U/15 title and the U/17 boys team also running well to bring home the silver medals. Congratulations to all our athletes who ran in relay teams as the relays are a very important part of the club team building ethos. We are also delighted with some notable individual performances where athletes medalled. The U/12 and older athletes will now go forward to represent Dublin in the National Athletic Championships to be held in Athlone at the end of March. Our athletes won gold in girls U11 60m (Ellie Oldrey) U15 Gold 800m (Zoie Richie), girls U17 Gold 800m/1500m double (Lucie Richie) girls U17 Gold 60m hurdle and silver Long jump (Sofia Hyland)Girls U14 Gold 1K walk (Philipa Mc Glynn). boys U15 Gold 60m (Marcus Adekoya) boys Gold U16 hurdle (Cillian McCabe) and boys U15 Gold hurdles (Tom O' Regan) . Patrick Hickey 1500m silver, Laura Mills 1500M Bronze,Sophie Richie 200M Silver, and Anna Brophy U19 Long Jump Silver Medal.
The competitions were a great success and the results were a testament to the hard work of all our coaches through the winter months at Rathfarnham Castle, Loreto Park Nutgrove, Tymon Park and Tallaght Track. There was a high level of organisation required and special mention to the club officials in this regard and also to the parents who volunteered for various stewarding roles. It is fantastic to see so many young members participating in the club and enjoying the opportunity to compete against their peers.
We will be represented by more of the younger athletes in the U9, U10 and U11 middle distance races to be held on the 1st of March.
