Dublin Athletics Board League Under 10 Cross Country Champion for 2015, Zoie Ritchie represented Dublin in the recent Country Championships held in Dungarvan. Moving up to U11 in a huge field, Zoie gave a good account of herself in heavy underfoot conditions. Experience was gained by Zoie who has had a excellent cross country season. Also running was the Rathfarnham Boys Under 11 Bronze winning team from Dublin Championships. Ryan O'Neill 63rd was top scorer. Dara Mulvihill, Cathal Keogh, Cillian Mc Cabe and Simon Comerford also ran. Well done to everyone. Full results are on aai website.
Run over a flat course the final XC League took place. The morning featured very high winds leftover from Storm Clodagh, which made conditions tough. Rathfarnham had a very impressive 27 young athletes turning out in the famous green singlet. U12 Girls: Sophie Fasenfeld, Abbey Kelly, Elena Cullen, Ciara Bermingham. U13 Girls: Alannah Fasenfeld, Clodagh Cullen.U14 Girls: Ellie Stapleton. U16 Girls: Aoife Murphy. U9 Boys: Liam Eldridge. U10 Boys: Simon Comerford, Dara Mulvihill, Fionn Kelly, Ryan O'Neill. U11 Boys: Cathal Keogh. U12 Boys: Cian Mulvihill, Oscar Comerford, Billy Conroy Roche. U16 Boys: Fields Chung. Tymon Park was the setting for the Uneven Ages Dublin Championships. A beautiful bright, sunny and warm morning greeted the athletes on offically the first day of winter! Rathfarnham AC was well represented with 21 young athletes, who between them all returned excellent results. First off was the Girls U9 race run over 800m, in which Jodi Ritchie was 4th, Sophie Maxwell 9th, Hayley Maxwell 22nd, Isobel Burge 23rd and Philipa McGlynn also competed. The girls gained themselves silver by placing 2nd overall. Ethan Simunyu made his debut for the club in the Boys U9 race, Ethan ran an excellent race to finish in 1st place. In the biggest field of the day, the Girls U11, the club had 7 runners. Zoe Ritchie, who has been dominating her own age group all season, moved up an age category. It paid off for Zoe who grabbed bronze in an impressive display. Charlotte Burge was 35th, Edel Mc Carthy 40th, Rhian Nelson 54th. Ella O'Leary, Orla Byrne and Kiki Needham were other finishers. The Girls U11 team placed 6th overall. In the Boys U11 race Ryan O'Neill was 5th and Dara Mulvihill 18th, who also moved up an age group. Also runnning was Cathal Keogh who finished 24th and Simon Comerford who was 52nd. The Boys showed great team spirit grabbing bronze by one point ahead of Portmarnock! The Under 13 Girls race had our trio of Alannah Fasenfeld, Laura Mills and Clodagh Cullen. This tough 2500m course featured the infamous "Heartbreak Hill", and the girls stuck to the task to finish 16th, 40th and 42nd respectfully. Our last athlete of the day was Fields Chung in the U17 Boys over a 5000m distance, and Fields battled to 16th place. Well done to all our young athletes and supporters. With spectators and athletes been greeted by an abundance of club tents and flags at the Magazine Fort course, it could only mean one thing! The Cross Country Championships had arrived! Weather wise, last Sunday morning brought us dull and slightly chilly weather, if spectating! More importantly, perfect for cross country action.Fifteen Rathfarnham juveniles rose to the occassion with some notable performances. First off was the U/10 Girls over 1km. Zoe Ritchie was in devastating form and romped home to win in great style! Also running and making her club debut was Eimear Doyle. Eimear ran a great race to finish 13th. Next up was U/10 Boys. Ryan O'Neill put in a eye catching performance to finish 5th. Dara Mulvihill in 8th was also a top ten finisher. Fionn Kelly, Simon Comerford and Conal Irvine all had impressive runs. Rathfarnham Boys Under 10 team finished 2nd team home. 2km lap was tackled by our impressive U/12 Girls. Lucie Ritchie, Sophie Fasenfeld, Abbey Kelly and Elena Cullen all ran in the green! Lucie finished in the top ten in great style, earning herself a trip to the nationals in the process. The Rathfarnham U12 girls team finished 8th overall. U/12 Boys featured the trio of Billy Conroy Roach, Oscar Comerford and Cian Mulvihill all three boys put in strong performances.Our last representive of the day was Fields Chung in the U/16 Boys. Run over 4km, Fields put in a strong showing in his first Dublin Championships.Well done to all! Full results will appear in Dublin Athletics Board website. Club Juveniles in action on Sunday
Congratulations to Sean Hehir who came a close second in the Donadea Running Club 10k trail race yesterday, in a time of 31.13. Brian Furey finished 4th in 34.44 and Ronan Kearns was 6th in 35.27. Full results are on the Pop Up Races website. Well done to all.
