Rathfarnham's Men's Senior Team finished 7th in the GloHealth Inter-Club Cross Country Championships today, 1st March. The event took place in the scenic Kilbroney Park, overlooking Carlingford Lough in Co. Down. The weather gods were shining down, with sunshine breaking through all afternoon, making for a pleasant afternoon on a hilly but dry course.
The men's team had 5 members: Matthew Horrigan (30th), Shane O'Neill (31st), Paul Fleming (40th), David Power (44th) and Brian Furey (50th). The senior races were won by Maria McCambridge who took a commanding lead from the gun, followed by Mick Clohissey who defended his 2014 title ahead of Sergiu Cibanu and Brendan O'Neill, in a field of 76 finishers (including the DSD team who won the race back in 1990).
Clonliffe Harriers packed well to come out on top in the team competition with a score of 27 points with rivals Raheny Shamrock in second on 46 points and Donore Harriers in third on 54 points. Full results are available on the AAI website.
Other results: Barry Minnock finished 2nd in the Mondello 10km (33 min) and Sean Hehir continued his marathon preparation with a victory in the Michael Egan 5 miler in Co Clare (25:03).
