At the Paris Marathon Ross Griffin set a new club record for running a marathon with Covid.... he doesn't recommend it!
There was a good entry and medal haul at the National 10k Championships in the Great Ireland Run held in the Phoenix Park on April 9th with the women’s team of Laura McDonnell, Aisling O’Connor and Ester Lawlor winning team Silver and all running PB’s! Kevin Donagher won the M35 silver medal and was 7th overall and the M50 team of Colm Murray, Edwin Keville and Seán McCreery won the team silver.
The Streets of Kilkenny 5k was a speedy affair on the evening of April 14th with three fast times from our three Rathfarnham WSAF AC athletes who made the journey. Kevin Donagher 15:14, Brian Furey 17:24, Colm Murray 17:26. Well done to them.
At the North Belfast Harriers Afternoon of 5k’s on April 21st Mitchell Byrne ran 14:45 and David Scanlon 14:56. Excellent runs in blustery conditions.
The women’s senior team of Louise Gaffney, Carla Sweeney and Laura McDonnell won the silver medal at the National Road Relay Championships held in Raheny on April 24th. The Ladies B team of Caitriona Dowling, Laura Ryan and Aisling O'Connor were 17th out of 25 teams and the M35 team of Jonny Hughes, Kevin Donagher and Richard Pollitt were 6th. Plenty of exciting action in relay running!
On the same day, the unstoppable Edwin Keville was 1st M50 and 14th overall in the Wexford Half Marathon. He ran 83:35. The course was hilly and conditions windy….so he says!
The Dublin Athletics Graded Track and Field Meeting no.1 kicked off the summer season on Wednesday 27th. Louise Gaffney ran a great 2:17.2 in the 800m. In the 3000m Aisling O’Connor and Laura Ryan both ran PB’s of 11:09.2 and 11:20.3 respectively. A little bit of polite new intra-club rivalry between Johnny Hughes and Richard Pollitt saw Johnny running a 9:44.47 3000m and Richard a new PB of 9:49.62!
There were lots Rathfarnham athletes at the Irish Milers Club Dublin meet on April 30th.
Cillian McCabe ran the 400m in 52:29. In the men's 800m Lee Byrne ran 2:00.38 and ever improving young Ryan O'Neill ran a 2:10.74 PB. Zoie Richie ran 2:15.29, Louise Gaffney 2:17.00 and Lady Captain Catríona Dowling a new PB of 2:21.41. Mitchell Byrne did the1,500m in a speedy 3:52.81. Dave Scanlon the 5,000m in 14:42.42 and Paul Stephenson on his radical new low key training plan did a fantastic 14:59.43 in the 5000m.
Also on April 30th David Power was 8th in the IMRA Ballyhoura trail Marathon with Brian Furey also competing in what was an unusual bad day at the office for him.
To finish out the weekend results Laura McDonnell won the Drogheda 10k in another PB of 36:01 and young Andrew Mullen annihilated his PB in the Great Limerick Run Marathon, running 2:58.24.
Well done to everybody who got stuck into racing this month.
