There was a huge turnout at the Dublin Masters cross country championships in St. Anne’s Park Raheny on Sunday January 9th with some great Rathfarnham WSAF performances. First across the line for the club was Matt Kane in 5th place. Shane O’Neill was 10th and won the M50 individual gold medal. Edwin Keville won the M55 silver and Seán McCreery the M55 bronze. The M50 team of Shane, Edwin, Seán and Pearse Coyle won silver backed up by Joe Casey, Denis Daly, Tom Cuddy and Brendan Hogan. The M35 team of Matt, Dave Power, Jonny Hughes and Aaron Browne finished in 6th place with backup from Greg Byrne, Gael Hernandez, Paul Fleming, Peter Toomey, Micheál Murphy, Ross Griffin, Denis Everett, Barry Mulvihill and Dermot Sheils
Our F35 team of Clare Sheils, Vanessa Sallier, Suzanne Ryan, Louise Cassidy and Orla Murray came 12th. Injuries left the M65 team short with good runs from Terry Clark and Philip Wright.
It was an emotional day for Raheny Shamrocks with the inauguration of the Pat Hooper Memorial Trophy and a fitting tribute to Pat that Raheny are the first winners. Rathfarnham WSAF AC were 7th. Something to work on for next year!
Well done to the Rathfarnham Dublin athletics organisers, President PJ Claffey, Adam Jones, Eoin McLoughlin, John McCabe, Jackie Sullivan and John McHugh.
