Report by Galwayman Brian Furey!
A small but strong team headed for the national masters cross country in Galway. Home territory for me, so I was happy to run for club and county. Weather wise it was snow blizzards on the way down, sunshine and clear skies during the races and then back to wintry conditions in the evening.
The course was a proper cross country course. Very wet and mucky underfoot but what cross country is all about! Louis McCarthy was 17th on his debut in Masters athletics (on his birthday). Brian Furey 20th, Ronan Kearns 30th and Paul Fleming 33rd. That 4 made up the winning club team in over 35s out of 24 teams in total. Others running, Eoin McLoughlin 34th just behind Paul Fleming, Peter Toomey 77th and Sean Doyle was 8th in over-60 category. Thanks to Adam Jones for the support at the race and well done to the Galway on hosting a great event.
