Tommy Hughes in Tullamore

The National Masters Track & Field Championships 2019 took place at Tullamore AC track on Sunday 18th August. Performance of the day was from Rathfarnham WSAF AC’s Tommy Hughes who won gold and silver medals. The gold was in the M55 5000m where he ran a new M55 track record of 16:39.99. The silver was in the M55 1500m where he ran 4:41.22. Shane O’Neill won the M45 1500m gold in 4:25.58 faster than the M35 and M40 winners! Unstoppable Tom Cuddy won the M60 5000m Bronze in 19:10.10. John McHugh was 6th in the M60 800m but after an hours preparation consisting of consuming tea and sandwiches he made the podium in the 1500m winning the bronze medal in a very respectable 5:48.28. Stuart McCleane ran 61.14 to come 4th in the M50 400m and the very young Louis McCarthy ran 15:53.70 in the M35 5000m. Congratulations to everyone who competed.
