Congratulations to everyone who made the effort to travel to Tuam to represent the club in the National Masters and Intermediate Cross Country Championships this afternoon. The journey entailed navigating dense fog for over five hours, but fortunately course conditions were more favourable than on the road, with moderate temperatures and a minimum of mud to contend with. A large field of 140 lined up for the Masters Women’s race on a hilly 4k route, and first home from the club was Vanessa Sallier in 43rd place in a time of 17.40. She was followed by Zoe Melling (79th in 19.05), Aisling Tohill in her debut masters race for the club (98th in 19.32) and Kathleen Curran (101st in 19.38). Paul Fleming and Derek Bain were our sole representatives in the Masters Men’s 7k race, finishing 16th in 24.31 and 171st in 30.29 respectively. Last but far from least was the Intermediate Men’s 8k race, in which David Scanlon (an impressive 5th in 27.13), Shane O’Neill (24th in 28.27), Patrick Marjolet (31st in 29.21) and Donagh Powell (448th in 30.47) took team silver by a narrow two-point margin. Well done to all. Full results are on the AAI website and photos are in the gallery.
