Congratulations to our two medal winning teams in the National Road Relays in Raheny this afternoon. The Masters Women were first off at 2pm, and Derval Devaney, who ran 6.01 for the first 1 mile leg, Donna Mahon (11.45 for the 2 mile leg) and Vanessa Sallier (5.53 for the final 1 mile leg), scored team bronze, behind host club Raheny Shamrocks and Finn Valley. In the Masters Men’s race our O/50 team won gold in a very competitive race. Tommy Bishop ran the first 1 mile leg in 5.30 and handed over to Gerry Doyle in 4th position. Gerry managed to claw back one place on the 2 mile leg which he ran in a blistering 10.36, the fastest in the M50 category on the day. Joe Casey chased down two more runners on the final leg to bring the team from bronze to gold medal position, finishing in a total time of 21.35, two seconds ahead of runners-up Drogheda and District. In the final race of the day, our senior men’s team of Mitch Byrne (9.43 for the first 2 mile leg), Jonathan Hughes (9.03 on the 1 mile leg), Louis McCarthy (15.30 for 3 miles) and Paul Fleming (10.15 for the final 2 mile leg) finished in 5th position. Well done to all. Full results are on the AAI site and photos are in the gallery.
