Congratulations to our two medal winning teams in the National 10 Road Championships yesterday, which were held in warm windy conditions in conjunction with the Great Ireland Run in the Phoenix Park. Sean Hehir lead the senior men to team silver in 6th place in a time of 31.29, followed by Paul Stephenson (32.02), Louis McCarthy (33.09) and Bobby Murphy (33.52), with Jonathan Hughes (34.40), Ciaran Aylward (34.44), Greg Byrne (36.39), Peter Toomey (37.53) and Michael Devine (42.43) providing solid backup. Shane O'Neill had a great run to win individual gold in the M40 category in a time of 33.44. John Farrelly ran 38.43 in the M45 category and Eric Cullen ran 42.05. In the M50 category, Gerry Doyle lead the team home to gold in an excellent time of 34.29, followed by Paul Moran (34.34), Tommy Bishop (38.13) and Terry Clarke (41.08). Gerry also won individual gold in the M50 category, with Paul close behind in silver medal position. In the women’s race, our masters team of Vanessa Sallier (43.19), Helen French (44.32) and Zoe Melling (46.32) finished in 8th position, while Laura Murphy (44.58) and Aisling O’Connor (49.24) competed in the senior category.
