There were some great performances in the Ballycotton 10 mile race today, in which athletes braved chilly conditions and were faced with a strong headwind on the long uphill climb to the finish. The ever-improving Paul Stephenson was first home from the club, shaving 2 1/2 minutes off his 2012 time to finish in 9th place in 53.01. He was followed by Jason Reid (15th in 53.54), Ciaran Aylward (33rd in 56.04), Jonathan Hughes (34th in 56.10) and Edwin Keville, who showed a great return to form by winning the M45 category in 58.19. Eimear Fitzmaurice led the Rathfarnham women home in style in an excellent time of 66.59, followed closely by Lorraine Nolan, who shaved five minutes off her previous PB to finish in 67.26. Helen Ingram ran a perfectly paced race to claim the F55 prize in 70.38, followed by Miriam McCormack (72.39) and Laura Flynn (72.42), who displayed great teamwork throughout the race, and Norita Murphy (74.32). Well done to all. Provisional results are on the Ballycotton Running Promotions website, and some photos are in the gallery.
