In the sleepy village of Gowran in South Kilkenny the scene was set between sunshine and rain showers for a very successful Championships for Rathfarnham. Our trio of Masters Ladies was led home by Vanessa Sallier (silver O/40) in second position overall, followed by Miriam McCormack (gold O/45) and Helen Ingram (gold O/55) in fourth and fifth. These lovely ladies were also the recipients of both gold Club and County team medals. It was a very successful return to racing for Miriam who has had a long absence due to injury.

The Novice men’s race followed over four laps and Paul Stephenson (silver individual) ran an aggressive race finishing second overall. He was followed home by Jason Reid (4th), Brian Furey (8th) and Bobby Murphy (9th). With the scoring four in the top ten there was no doubt about the team championship gold, and to this was added the County Championship win. The scoring four were strongly supported by Greg Byrne, Ciaran Aylward and Peter Twomey. The times run by our athletes were impressive compared to previous years over the same course; this is an indication of the depth of talent in this group.

The Masters men were led home by their Captain John Farrelly, followed by Terry Clarke (Silver O/50 Club & County team medal), Tom Cuddy (Silver O/50 Club Team Medal), and Philip Wright (Silver O/50 Club team medal).

Full results will be available on the Athletics Leinster website. It was without question a very successful outing for our club. Well done everybody.
