David Scanlon earned himself two well-deserved Gold County and Region team medals when he finished 7th on the Dublin Team in the National Inter Counties Cross Country Championship under 18 Boys in Sligo today. He ran very well in muddy conditions and bright sunshine on Sligo Racecourse. David proved once again that hard work and diligent training will bring the rewards. Jack McLoughlin competing in the men’s junior event finished 7thon the County team in a time of 23.07, just missing out on on the medals by one place. Coach Philip Halpin will be very satisfied with both their performances.
In the men’s senior race Sean Hehir led the Clare team home on a very muddy 10k course, finishing a super 7th overall in a time of 34.03. Unfortunately for Sean his County missed out on the medals by 11 points, finishing in fourth place. His run puts him in strong contention for a place on Irish team for the forthcoming European Championships. Michael Freely running for his native Mayo was second scorer on the County team, finishing 56th in a time of 37.46, and not to be outdone Brian Furey running for Galway was second athlete home for his County in 64th place in 38.29.
Well done to all who travelled to Sligo today. Some preliminary results are on the AAI website.
