Sprinter Stephen Gaffney is off to a great start to the season. In the British Athletics league on Saturday 6th May he ran 21.8 (wind -1.7m/s) in the 200m and then in Newham on Sunday and ran 10.71 (wind +1.8m/s) in the 100m. Highlight of the bank holiday weekend seemed to be Team Gold for Rathfarnham WSAF AC in the 2018 Dublin Novice Championships at the Tallaght 5k on Sunday 6th May by the team of Shane O’Neill, Donagh Powell, Eoin McLoughlin and Greg Byrne. There were some great times by young Rathfarnham WSAF athletes at the Irish Milers Club Greystones meeting on May 5th. Alex Hill PB’ed by breaking 2min for the first time in the 800m, winning the C race in 1.59.69. Cillian Doherty won the 1500m C race in 4.00.11 a 6 second PB. On Friday 4th May in the NE 10 Championships, Southern Connecticut State University, Mitchell Byrne placed 2nd in the 1500m running 3.54.67 and also helped his 4x800m team to another 2nd with a 1.55.37 split. Well done to Derek Bain who ran a wet and stormy Connemara Half Marathon in a time of 1:38:34 to come a very respectable 5th in the M50 category. Unfortunately he relinquishes the title he has held for the last two years. Not bad considering the training focus is elsewhere and the pressure of the media hype around the three in a row!...

The National Road Relay Championships took place in Raheny on Sunday 22nd April 2018. Rathfarnham WSAF AC highlight was the winning of the masters competition Bronze with a team made up of Bobby Murphy, Paul Flemming and Ronan Kearns.
